How is this different from a line-level diff?

A line-level diff marks entire lines as added or removed. This tool works at the word level, so if a single word changes within a line, only that word is highlighted — not the whole line. This is much easier to read for prose text.

What do the colors mean?

Green background = word added in the revised text. Red background = word removed from the original. Orange background = word that changed (a removal immediately followed by an addition in the same position).

Is my text sent to a server?

No. All comparison logic runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device.

What algorithm is used?

The tool uses the Longest Common Subsequence (LCS) algorithm applied to word tokens. LCS finds the minimal set of insertions and deletions needed to transform one sequence into another, which produces clean, human-readable diffs.
