What is the difference between hard wrap and soft wrap?

Hard wrap inserts actual newline characters into the output. Soft wrap only previews how the text would look at the chosen width without changing the underlying text.

What does 'preserve paragraphs' do?

When enabled, blank lines that separate paragraphs are kept intact so the structure of your document is maintained.
